Archery

Archery has been an Olympic discipline since 1972. Archery is all about hitting artificial targets, never live animals. What make this sport so attractive is being outdoors, focusing on the activity and leaving the everyday routine behind. The goal is to place the arrow as closely to a previously defined target as possible. Archery is classified as a precision sport.

Archery using bows and arrows is one of humankind's most ancient forms of hunting. Thanks to its near-noiselessness, it was a highly effective hunting tool.

Archery was an Olympic discipline in 1900, 1904, 1908 and 1920, regaining this status in 1972.

Kitzbühel and its surroundings also offer great opportunities for practising the sport of archery. Two field archery courses are available right next to "Alte Wacht" inn located in Jochberg. The smaller 10-target course is perfect for families or for those who want to do a quick short course. It can also be used at night. Floodlights are available upon request. Total walking time: approx. 1 to 1.5 hours. The large course includes 20 targets and takes you along Jochberger Ache creek through the Kitzbühel Alps. Total walking time: approx. 3 to 3.5 hours

Every year, a large field archery tournament takes place during the second weekend of October. In the summer, weekly beginners' classes are available. Equipment can be rented at "Alte Wacht" inn.

Other courses are located nearby (e.g. Waidring, Kirchberg and Kössen.)

Horseback riding in Kitzbühel

Try horseback riding in Kitzbühel, which is a highly enjoyable experience for both the horse and the rider.
And it is fun, whether you go horseback riding by yourself, as a couple or with the entire family. Choose from our wide range of opportunities: first steps for beginners, extensive cross-country rides for experienced riders, exercises on the lunge or obstacle courses on the riding ground and much more.

Our well-trained riding instructors will ease beginners into their first horseback experience. And they will certainly teach a trick or two to experienced riders, especially when riding cross-country.

Other than very athletic warm-blooders and strong haflingers, cute ponies are also available. Kids just love them! Given the ponies' good-naturedness, they are perfect for kids' first horseback riding attempts.

Or may we suggest something different? Try horse carriage driving!
Driving a horse carriage always makes for great new perspectives, no matter the season.
