Nordic Walking
Following the successful completion of running and nordic walking trails in Kitzbühel, we are now focusing on further increasing our selection of activities for runners and nordic walkers. We are currently working on new trails on Jochberg mountain. These new trails are scheduled to open in June 2010.
This new endurance sport is a combination of walking and upper-body workout using two poles, which support the walking rhythm. Nordic walking opportunities in and around Kitzbühel are almost endless: Its 170 kilometres of nordic walking and running trails, all with markers, as well as 1,000 kilometres of hiking paths are perfect for nordic walking.
Nordic walking, which is fast-paced hiking using adapted ski poles, has found countless followers in the past few years. The use of the poles makes this sport much more efficient than just "regular" walking, because it also strengthens upper-body muscles. It is a low-impact endurance sport that is great for burning fat, is gentle on your joints and helps relieve muscle tension.
Kitzbühel, a city known for its extensive selection of athletic activities, quickly saw the potential of this new sport and included nordic walking in its extensive programme. More than 23 "Kitz Running" running and nordic walking paths as well as more than 1,000 kilometres of hiking trails await nordic walking enthusiasts. As of spring 2010, our newly developed "Kitz Running Jochberg" trails will be awaiting runners and nordic walkers.
Folders detailing all running and nordic walking paths are available free of charge at all Kitzbühel Tourismus offices. A variety of hotels and pensions offer nordic walking activities and services.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your poles and try nordic walking!
