Advent in the mountains

You know the time has come when the scent of mulled wine and cinnamon biscuits wafts through the snowy town of Kitzbühel and children’s eyes shine wide with excitement in the candlelight: experience Advent in Kitzbühel from 04 to 23 December 2009 with the Kitzbühel ‘Christkindlmarkt’ Christmas market in the town centre and numerous events in the Kitzbühel mountains.

Advent on the Hahnenkamm and at the Hochkitzbühel
A fixed pre-Christmas date in the calendar is Advent on the Hahnenkamm (04. – 07.12.09) with fragrant mulled wine, chestnuts and Kitzbühel brass bands. The romantic evening ascent up the mountain is an experience in itself (04.12.09, 17.45). After the wine tasting, you can enjoy delicious Advent snacks with Terlan wine soup, bacon, cheese, roasted meats and chestnuts. Sepp Kahn with his poetry readings and festive Kitzbühel music provide a fitting Advent backdrop. The last train back down the mountain leaves at 23.00, transporting you from the Hahnenkamm back down into the valley in an Advent-packed atmosphere.

Cost of the Tyrol Advent snack with readings and music 30 euros | price of journey up and down mountain 11.50 euros – valid day and multi-day passes as well as season tickets can also be used to travel up the mountain!

Five tenors and ice sculptures on the Hahnenkamm
The 5 Italian Tenors (07.12.09, 16.00, ticket price 30 euros) will be visiting the Hahnenkamm. The 2 hour open air concert will take place at 1,600m, accompanied by Kitzbühel brass bands. You are recommended to wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing – there is standing room only.

Two special ice sculptures will be officially unveiled at the Zauberwald and the starting point of the legendary Streif ski track – supported by Kitzbühel brass bands with their atmospheric music. (05.12.09, 14.00–16.00).

Christkindlmarkt
The ‘Kitzbüheler Christkindlmarkt’ Christmas market is a reminder of how Christmas used to be: festive, peaceful, simple and beautiful. When the scent of cinnamon and cloves from mulled wine and Christmas biscuits fill the wintery air, when the gentle chimes of the Katharinenkirche church ring round the streets and when brass bands, Christmas stories and musical performances captivate visitors – then you know that the Christkindlmarkt market has returned to Kitzbühel’s historic centre. Friendly conversations are held by candlelight for a celebration of Christmas “as it used to be”.

Christmas tree decorations from Biedermeier to 1950
The Museum Kitzbühel will be offering something special this Winter for anyone captivated by the magic of Christmas. The special exhibition on ‘Christmas dreams’ takes visitors on an excursion into the world of Christmas which is sure to fill children with excitement and leave their parents feeling nostalgic!

All kinds of figurines and motifs incorporating different colours, forms and technologies can be found on the four 3m high Christmas trees: birds, fir cones, bells, mushrooms, angels, snowmen, musical instruments, prams and cots and much more!
