Triathlon ITU World Championship Series

The ‘Dextro Energy Triathlon’ triathlon World Championship Series is also taking place in Kitzbühel in 2010. The legendary city of sport will be joining forces with big cities and Olympic venues such as Sydney, Seoul, Madrid, London, Hamburg and Budapest for the second time.

Kitzbühel will be hosting a top class Summer triathlon event for the second time. According to the head of tourism Peter Marko, “The Dextro Energy Triathlon will attract top and amateur athletes from all over the world, helping us to strengthen our position as the most legendary city of sport in the Alps. Our gentle natural landscapes, perfect infrastructure and attentive hotel industry mean that we can offer a unique atmosphere”.

Last year marked Kitzbühel’s premiere as a host city in the World Championship Series. Millions of TV viewers across the world watched live as the exciting competition took place in this legendary city of sport. The race director Manfred Bachmann of the Kitzbühel Triathlon Association says “Kitzbühel has established itself as a fixed point on the triathlon scene. The athletes feel particularly at home here with us. Many of them choose to extend their stay due to the fantastic training opportunities on offer”.

The 2010 triathlon will be characterised by an even more attractive route. The cycle course will be even more challenging and will pass through the picturesque centre of Kitzbühel for the first time.

“The World Championship Series will take place in 3 Olympic cities and various other world centres. This helps our sport take a big step forward” says ITU President Marisol Casado of the choice of host venues.

The Dextro Energy Triathlon is the official World Championship Series for the triathlon (swimming, cycling, running) and the most important competition series in the sport worldwide. The ITU World Championship Series will be battled out in 7 contests. The 2010 world champion will receive prize money of 3 million dollars. The big broadcasters will be providing live coverage across the world such as the BBC, NBC, ARD or ZDF.
