ITU World Triathlon Series Kitzbühel
Kitzbühel will be hosting a top class Summer triathlon event for the 4th time. According to the head of tourism Peter Marko, “the ITU World Triathlon Series will attract top and amateur athletes from all over the world, helping us to strengthen our position as the most legendary city of sport in the Alps. Our gentle natural landscapes, perfect infrastructure and attentive hotel industry mean that we can offer a unique atmosphere”.
Millions of TV viewers across the world watched live as the exciting competition took place in this legendary city of sport. The race director Manfred Bachmann of the Kitzbühel Triathlon Association says “Kitzbühel has established itself as a fixed point on the triathlon scene. The athletes feel particularly at home here with us. Many of them choose to extend their stay due to the fantastic training opportunities on offer”.
The 2012 triathlon will be characterised by an even more attractive route. The cycle course will be even more challenging and will pass through the picturesque centre of Kitzbühel for the first time.
The “ITU World Triathlon Series" will take place in 3 Olympic cities and various other world centres. This helps our sport take a big step forward” says ITU President Marisol Casado of the choice of host venues.
The ITU World Triathlon Series is the official World Championship Series for the triathlon (swimming, cycling, running) and the most important competition series in the sport worldwide. The ITU World Triathlon Series will be battled out in 7 contests. The 2012 world champion will receive prize money of 3 million dollars. The big broadcasters will be providing live coverage across the world such as the BBC, NBC, ARD or ZDF.
