Triathlon ITU World Championship Series
Triathlon World Stars in Kitzbühel - 09 to 12 July!Madrid, November 2008. The cat is out of the bag: the International Triathlon Union (ITU) has confirmed that the 2009 World Championships will involve a spectacular series of races involving 8 competition stages. The championships will be transmitted on TV throughout the world. The aim of the series is to bring the sport to some of the world’s top metropolises and urban areas. The venues include London, Yokohama/Tokyo, Washington D.C.– and now... Kitzbühel!
7 international cities and the small Alpine town of Kitzbühel (09 – 12 July 2009) will all host competition stages of the new ‘Dextro Energy ITU Triathlon World Championship Series’. The new world champion will be decided throughout Summer over eight different stages. The Championship Series is therefore a mixture of formula 1 and tennis grand slam, if we compare it with other top sports.
The host cities include world metropolises such as London, Madrid, Washington D.C., Singapore and the world’s largest conurbation of Yokohama/Tokyo with its 37 (!) million inhabitants! Hundreds of thousands of spectators are sure to line the route and thousands of people will take part in ‘open races’ in these international cities. The high-profile locations are also likely to attract sponsors and TV viewers.
So how does Kitzbühel fit into the picture? The ITU considers the town to represent a welcome change in the series – a splash of colour amid the maze of streets in the world metropolises. The magnificent landscapes of the Schwarzsee lake and Wilder Kaiser area, not forgetting the picturesque old town, are sure to create some highly attractive TV viewing. Yet this is not the only incentive. Race Director Manfred Bachmann explains that the Kitz-Triathlon is very popular with athletes, organisers and officials. Since 2006, this competition has offered a well-developed and professional event as well as plenty of charm and Tyrol hospitality. In Autumn 2008, Kitzbühel also went to great lengths to fulfil its ‘dream’ of taking part in the World Championship series.
A warm welcome to our open-to-all class of competition
