Kitzbuehel Advent | Christmas MarketNov 27, 2014 :: For the second year running, Kitzbühel, the legendary sports town in the Alps, has won the prestigious, "world's best ski area", award, showcasing not only the surrounding mountains and ski slopes, but also the contemplative side of Kitzbuehel. From November 27th until December 26th, 2014, the historic medieval centre will once again be transformed to resemble a festive scene from a traditional Christmas card. For 30 days over the festive period, Kitzbühel can well and truly say, “Welcome to the most magical Christmas town in the Alps!”
Throughout the year, Kitzbühel is renowned for its sporting activities and Advent is another magical event in Kitzbühel. Across the region, at the foot of the legendary Hahnenkamm, or in the neighbouring districts of Reith and Jochberg, visitors can look forward to numerous Tyrolean delicacies during the festive season. The Kitzbühel Advent combines tradition, local peculiarity and international flair in a unique setting and could not be more fabulous.

The Kitzbühel Christmas Market is a unique experience well worth a visit. The official opening ceremony takes place on Saturday, November 29th, at 18.00 hours, in the picturesque old medieval centre, with the stunning nativity scene, put together by creative local artists, being the centre of attention. The streets are lined with numerous stalls providing a unique atmosphere by serving culinary specialties and delicious hot drinks, with the opportunity to also purchase unique crafts and fine gift items from around the Kitzbühel area.

Festive ceremony with traditional brass bands and speeches from the highest representatives of Kitzbuehel.
Friday, December 5th, 17.30 hours, Kitzbuehel Krampus
St Nicholas arrives with small gifts before the terrifying Krampus with their great show and guaranteed scary experiences take over! Marvel at the Oipen pass and their friends.
Saturday, December 6th, 18.00 hours, Wiltener boys in the centre of Kitzbuehel
The most famous choir in Tyrol will perform to the delight of their fans.

Every Thursday at 17.00 hours, we have the torchlight hike with storyteller Reinhard Juen
Every Thursday at 18.00 hours, the shepherds sing Christmas carols whilst making their way around the market.
Every Friday at 17.00 hours, Christmas tales and stories are told by children in the museum.
Every Saturday from 14.00 hours, there is a children's programme with Cornelia Miedler at the campfire.

Local carol singers, dressed as Shepherds, play a magnificent role for the traditional Advent atmosphere and you can listen to their wonderful voices on Thursdays, at 18.00 hours. One hour earlier, at 17.00 hours, the passionate storyteller, Reinhard Juen, sets off for a torchlight hike through Kitzbuehel at dusk. If Reinhard makes the characters in his stories and legends come alive in this mystical atmosphere you too, will be on fire.
On December 5th, beginning at 17:30 o'Clock, Kitzbühel is officially in the hands of St. Nicholas and his counterparts, the Krampus. But not only just one or two Krampus but more than 100 Krampus running around at large with the crowds. Get excited for a ghastly night out.
Without taking a breather, we continue on with golden voices for you on the 6th of December! Starting at 18:00 o'Clock in the Kitzbühel 'Vorderstadt' you can attend a concert fit for a King, from one of the oldest and most prestigious boys' choirs in Europe, die Wilten Boys` Choir.
On Saturdays at 14.00 hours Cornelia Miedler, also known as, “forest runner”, gathers her guests around a campfire, where they experience the scene of a colourful romp of singing, dancing, baking and playing.

Daily petting, riding and cuddling hours are available from 15.00 to 19.00 hours with pony rides and a petting zoo. This not only delights and entertains our younger visitors, but also shortens their waiting time for Father Christmas. Special eye-catchers are also hidden everywhere at the market to keep children entertained and capture their imagination.
You can also look forward to all imaginable delicacies from traditional Tyrolean cuisine, of which Kitzbühel is particularly proud of. The enjoyment of warm culinary delights, from the brightly lit stalls with their numerous treasures and Christmas gifts, is always a special moment in the build up to Christmas and it warms the body as well as the mind in the crisp cold weather.
Many local musicians and choirs bring the sound of music to the market between 18.00-19.00 hours, providing a real treat for the ears, with St. Catherine’s Church offering a delightful contrast to the daily hustle and bustle on the streets with its, "silent hours". You can let this hour of worship work on you each day from 19.00 to 20.00 hours, followed by the historic carillon in the church tower.
A Christmas market would be strange without the traditional Advent wreath candles and at 16.00 hours each day there is the ceremony for the lighting of the Advent wreath candles, that are lovingly crafted by hand over many hours.
On Christmas Eve at 15.00 hours, a Christmas reading will take place providing a special unique moment for all ages both young and old.
Heavenly Advent Rasmushof
Just five minutes from the centre of Kitzbühel, is a very different, more contemplative world. Heavenly Advent Rasmushof takes place directly beneath the finish line of the famous Streif racecourse with forty beautifully decorated fir trees, each with thousands of glittering Christmas decorations as a backdrop. Regional delicacies such as homemade bread with various spreads, fresh roasted chestnuts and mulled wine provide the perfect accompaniment. In addition, on weekends, you can look forward to traditional highlights such as, trumpet players, Carol singers, a children's afternoon, and a petting zoo.

Walk- in Advent Calendar, Reith
From December 1st to Christmas Eve, the holiday village of Reith is transformed into a giant walk in Advent calendar. One of the residents opens one of their, "windows", and with it their kitchen - an adorable idea! Guests are invited to keep up with the master of the house to enjoy mulled wine and cakes whilst listening to music and having a chat. All of the 24, “Advent windows”, remain lit after opening until January 6th, 2014.
The Walk – in Advent Calendar takes place daily from December 1st to January 6th, between 17.00 - 22.00 hours.
Decorated doors open in Jochberg
The people of Jochberg are honoured to invite you to their, “Decorated open doors”, evenings. From December 1st to 23rd, a different private host invites you into their home and between 1600 to 1800 hours it is possible to join in the fun and rub shoulders with the locals, experiencing the traditions of rural Christmas culture.
Kitzbühel Museum Exhibition
