History
The name "Reith" derives from an ancient "cleared woodland", first mentioned in historical documents around 1190 ("ruote"). Originally it belonged to the Monastery of Berchtesgaden. Between the 15th and 18th century the Rerobichl and Astberg mountains were silver and copper mines. The first parish church was consecrated as early as in 1188. The same House of God was enlarged in Gothic style during the 15th century and redesigned as a pillar church with Baroque elements in 1729.
