Hornbahn – alpine flower garden – Seilbahnstation Alpenhaus or from Alpenhaus to Horngipfel – Lämmerbühelalm – Kneippbecken – Bichlalm – return over the same way or walk over the old Sonnbergweg to Kitzbuehel.
From the Cable car station at the top of the Horngipfel (2000 m), then go down the mountain to the ‘Alpine Flower Garden’. You can the go down to the next cable car station, the Alpenhaus 1670 m, It is also possible to hike up to the Alpen Garden from this station Hornköpfl (1660 m, Hornbahn I und Hornbahn II).
The plants in the Alpine Flower garden have signs on each individual type explaining the plant and its origin as not all the plants are homologous. The garden has been looked after by Eva and Toni Hofer since 1985 and they have travelled far and wide collecting mountain plants from the Caucusus, the Andies, the Pyranees and the Himalayas. There are a collection of botanical species from the whole world.
The Garden is set on a grass filled naturally rocky underground. An adviser to the family Hofer is Prof. Dr. Herbert Reisigl from the Botanical Institute of Innsbruck who investigates the archives of the mountain plants. Here the knowledge is accumulated and put into practice that allows the wonderful flowering in the garden open from Spring until Autumn and the entrance free.
After the trip from the mountain through the Alpen Garden, a visit to the Hornköpfl gives a wonderful view over the Kitzbuehel Alps. There is possibility to go over the Lämmerbühelalm to the Bichlalm but it is a steep slope to walk. On the way you can enjoy the fresh water of the Kneippbad,
From the Bichlalm it is possible to return over the Alpine Flower Garden or go by the „alten Sonnbergweg“ to the Sonnbergstub’n and visit the ‘singing Landlady’ Rosi for a glass or two.
