In recent years the number of local, tourist, and professional road bike riders, that visit Kitzbuehel, has increased rapidly. The combination of a stage of the Tour of Austria finishing on the Kitzbuehel Horn, and hosting a round of the Triathlon World series, has given a boost to the local scene. The myth of the Kitzbuehel Horn and its status as the steepest mountain road in Austria is one of the factors that helps attract more and more riders to the area every year.

The road bike has a great tradition in Kitzbuehel. The Kitzbueheler Horn road race has been held since 1971 and the Tour of Austria has been a guest since its early years. The summit finishes of the Tour of Austria at the Kitzbuehel Horn and hosting the start of the Tour of Germany in 2008 have placed Kitzbuehel in the spotlight of the racing scene worldwide.

"Kitz Road Bike" is the publication of 1,200 km of selected road bike tours available from the Kitzbuehel Tourism Office during the cycling season.

The tours take you through the stunning Tyrolean valleys, into the neighbouring Pinzgau region, and around the alpine roads of southern Bavaria.
