Skiing
Since 1892, Kitzbuehel and the sport of Skiing have shared a timeless connection. Since those early days, the sport and Kitzbuehel itself have developed dramatically. The famous Hahnenkamm Race first ran in 1931 and from humble early beginnings has become the most important ski event in the world. Kitzbuehel has a unique connection with skiing that is unmatched elsewhere in the Alps.
Just as it was in 1892, Kitzbuehel is looked upon as a trendsetter in skiing. In 2013, Kitzbuehel was voted the best ski area in the world by www.skiresort.de which is the largest ski test portal worldwide. The Kitzbuehel ski area map has 52 cable cars and lifts that serve 170 kilometres of groomed, marked and prepared pistes. There are an additional 32 kilometres of ski routes and also plenty of ski touring possibilities.
At the Hanglalm in Jochberg there is now a state of the art snowpark with numerous kickers, boxes and rails for snowboarders and freestyle skiers to enjoy. Powder and off-piste skiers will find endless off - piste opportunities in an area that covers more than 230 square kilometres – an easily accessible area, three times the size of Manhattan!
There has to be a break from the fun at times and there are fifty six romantic huts and mountain restaurants with their own unique atmosphere, inviting you to stop to enjoy typical Tyrolean dishes.
