How I came to Kitzbühel...

Mira´s story

If Mira's life had a title, this one would be "There is a train going nowhere and I alone as a passenger..." very apt! Traveled around the world a few times looking for that suitable home for a blonde curly haired girl named Mira, originally from Germany.

Mira was born on 15.6.1979 at the beautiful Lake Starnberg, the first years of her life she spent in Munich and Berlin. From the age of 10 Mira then lived in Nuremberg. At the age of 16 she wanted to conquer the world and went to school in Vancouver. Shortly before her Matura she spent a year in Toronto and then went back to Nuremberg to finish her Abi (Matura).

Here on the Kitzbühel Blog Mira tells us how and why she fell in love with Kitzbühel and what makes the Gamsstadt so special for her!

Love at first sight!

It all started last summer: In August 2014, I was supposed to stand in for the store manager at the Hillinger Lounge in Kitzbühel for two weeks. Love at first sight! No! There was no man involved, but the love was for the mountains, the people and the little fawn!

Tranquility on the mountain, exciting evening atmosphere in the old town

I have found these two weeks to be the most beautiful and exciting weeks in many years! Daily hikes to my beloved Lämmerbichlalm at 1,500 m, run by the Lindner family and managed from mid-June to the end of October, wonderful products from own production such as butter, cheese, bacon, spreads, farmhouse bread and much more. There was peace and quiet for me.  The evenings in downtown Kitzbühel were again an explosive mix of people, cultures, conversations and hot discussions! At this point one could no longer speak of love, it was much more! It was the feeling of arriving; it was simply coming home!

After many years of wandering I had found my energy place! Well, unfortunately the two weeks full of emotions and impressions had come to an end again and I had set out on a last hike into the mountains! I stood at the top and spoke to the universe and asked for a miracle. I did not want to leave this paradise.

The mountain world is mine!

A big thank you was and is Leo Hillinger who brought me professionally to Kitzbühel for the first time. Exactly on this day when I was standing at the summit and talking to the mountain spirits, the phone rang.   I was asked if I wanted to stay in Kitzbühel professionally. Did I want to stay? Did I want a life in Kitzbühel? Not even for a second did I have to think about it. After that phone call, I descended from the mountain as if in a trance. Passing cows chewing, I imagined what life would be like here in Kitzbühel. I never once doubted whether it was right to give up everything and start again. No, this time it was different, I wanted to stay here!

One day later I went to Vienna to dissolve my apartment and to organize the move. Two weeks later I had moved into my apartment in Kitzbühel and wore the fawn as a pendant around my neck, I was mighty proud and just happy!

In 8 months I have built up a network that could not have been better. People I met in August as guests, I can now call friends.

Here I am at home......

When I wake up in the morning and see the Wilder Kaiser, I can only thank the good Lord. I have finally arrived and my soul has come to rest. I can practice ALL my hobbies here and there are days when I go skiing in the morning, ride my racing bike at noon and go for a sunset hike in the evening. I have always been a fun loving person however since August 2014 every day makes even more sense. The train ends here!
