71st Generali Open Kitzbühel 2015Aug 2, 2015 :: Kitzbuehel and Tennis – this is a legendary association. For 71 years Kitzbuehel has held the “Gamsstadt” international Tennis tournaments. In Summer 2014 the ‘Tennis Cracks’ meet from 02nd - 08th August for the “Generali Open Kitzbühel”
After the successful return to the ATP World Tour in the last year, Kitzbuehel 2015 is again in the spotlight of World Class Tennis with the unique atmosphere in front of the magnificent backdrop of the Kitzbuehel Alps.
The fascination for tennis finally came back to Kitzbühel in 2014. More than 40.000 enthusiastic tennis fans watched the fiercely contested matches live in the Stadium end enjoyed the unique atmosphere. The Generali Open in Kitzbuehel was seen all over the world, it was broadcasted in 63 countries in 4 continents. More than 130 hours live were reported from the tennis matches.
This interest surpassed all expectations from tournament director Alex Antonitsch and his team. They are trying to top this in 2015. This year Top class players will fight for the highly coveted Kitzbuehel Trophy and the cash prices totalling Euro 426.605. But it is not only the sporting attraction and the money that brings the best tennis players of the world to the Gamsstadt but it’s unique charm, the most beautiful countryside, the hospitality and the extensive recreation facilities on offer is appreciated by the sportsmen and women from all over the world.
Tennis has is a long history in Kitzbuehel. Already in the 19th century the elitist white sport was brought to Kitzbuehel from English Guests. In 1889 was the first Tennis competition. Since 1945 until today it has been a lasting competition- under different names through the years (Alpenländerpokal, Head Cup. Generali Open, Austrian Open). One of the highlights of this tournament was in the 1990’s with winners like Thomas Muster, Pete Sampras and Goran Ivanisevic.
