Red Bulls Salute 2019Aug 23, 2019 :: In 2019, the exclusive “Red Bulls Salute” invitational ice hockey tournament featuring four top European teams is coming to Kitzbühel for the first time! From 23rd to 24th August, the Malmö Redhawks from Sweden, HIFK Helsinki from Finland and the German teams Red Bull Munich and EC Red Bull Salzburg will impress fans at Sportpark Kitzbühel with some great ice hockey battles as they prepare for the upcoming ice hockey season.
Alongside the matches themselves, visitors can also look forward to a diverse programme of accompanying events that are sure to offer sports fans from near and far an unforgettable experience in Kitzbühel, the town known as the most legendary sports town in the Alps.
The participants battling it out in the semi-finals have already been decided: On 23rd August, the host team Red Bull Salzburg will kick off the Red Bulls Salute 2019 with a match against the Malmö Redhawks at 4pm. This will be followed by the match between Red Bull Munich and IFK Helsinki, which will kick off at 8pm. The losers of these two matches will face each other in the third place play-off on 24th August (at 4pm) before the winners take to the rink to compete in the final at 8pm on the same day.
Red Bull Munich has fond memories of the two-time Swedish champions after facing the Swedish team in both the group stage (in which each team won their respective home game) and the quarter-final of the last Champions League season. After winning the first leg of the quarter-final 2:1 at home, the Munich-based team headed to Malmö for a dramatic second leg that ended 4:5 in regular time and went into overtime before Trevor Parks secured victory for Red Bull Munich with his late goal.
In the 2017/18 Champions League season, the Red Bulls faced the seven-time Finnish champions in the group stage. The Munich-based team came out on top in both matches (winning 4:1 and 4:2). In the Finnish league, IFK Helsinki has successfully made it to the play-off semi-finals in the last three consecutive seasons.
Red Bull Salzburg
In the last Champions League season, the three-time German champions Red Bull Munich and the eight-time Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg went head-to-head for the first time. After the first leg ended 0:0, the Munich-based team won the second leg 3:1 and progressed into the final for the first time ever.
Red Bull Munich
Last season, the three-time German champions and participant in the last four finals of the German Ice Hockey League made history in the world of German ice hockey by becoming the first German club to reach the Champions League final.
