The First North Tyrolean Trotting Club in Kitzbühel has existed since 1881 and promotes Austrian harness racing with its races. Harness racing, which is also called trotting race and pacing race, is a type of horse racing in which the horses race at a specific gait, a trot or a pace. Every year in the more than 140-year history, the association organizes the traditional sled racing day with the main race for the Golden Chamois. The race will be held on February 4th, 2024.
The big horse race on snow includes five trotting races as well as one competition each in pony riding, Noriker driving and mini trotting. You can also bet on the horses - the potential payout can be huge, sometimes even life changing.. This event is a pure fascination on ice and snow for the whole family, come and feel the special flair of harness racing while enjoying the exclusive catering and drinks.
In Austria, the horses for trotting races are harnessed to so-called sulkys. The jockey (driver) steers the horse sitting from there. The horses have to cover a certain distance – in the specified gait, trot or amble. If a horse starts to gallop, it is immediately disqualified. Trotting races take place on a wide variety of floors: sand, ash or even grass.
