Autumn holiday in Kitzbühel

Alpine lifestyle and idyllic natural surroundings, time-honoured traditions and contemporary living. There is barely any other town that brings together these contrasts as expertly as Kitzbühel. The most legendary sports town in the Alps is world-famous for the Hahnenkamm races, but that is just one facet of the legend that is Kitzbühel. It is the inimitable charm of the region and its towns of Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg, its outstanding infrastructure with top hotels and food establishments, variety of sporting options and inspiring landscape that makes Kitzbühel so unique.

The holiday destination of Kitzbühel nestles at an altitude location of between 800 and 2000 metres, flanked by the Kitzbühel Horn, the southern mountains and the famous Hahnenkamm, in the heart of Tyrol. The most legendary sports town in the Alps and its holiday villages of Reith, Jochberg and Aurach provides a variety-packed area for excursions with plenty of hiking paths for unforgettable hikes in the unspoilt natural surroundings.

As a member of the exclusive organisation 'Best of the Alps', Kitzbühel is among the best known holiday destinations in the Alpine area. Along with timeless charm, Kitzbühel inspires with its outstanding infrastructure and sophisticated gastronomy, being one of 12 unique Alpine destinations.

365 days of Alpine lifestyle

As a year-round destination, the holiday region is a genuine hiking paradise, 365 days a year, and in Tyrol hiking is possible any time of the year.

During an autumn holiday in particular there is that unmistakeable combination of time for relaxation and recovery, coupled with activity. After all, in golden autumn the sporting tradition of hiking, cycling and golf are very much emphasised.

Nestling between the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbüheler Horn, Kitzbühel together with the holiday villages of Reith, Aurach and Jochberg, are a genuine paradise for hiking.

In 2019 the region in Tyrol was the first to be awarded the European Hiking Seal of Approval, setting new standards with the best tended and signposted hiking path network, along with nine certified hiking hosts.

One special hiking experience in Tyrol is discovering the grass-covered mountains, typical of Kitzbühel, which - up above 2000 metres - are covered with colourful meadows and Alpine pastures, and the unique mountain landscape arises from the impressive backdrop of the rugged summits of the Wilder Kaiser.

In autumn too, the region and its holiday villages, provides hiking routes and walking paths of all difficulty levels along the River Ache.

With its themed hiking paths, the sports town provides a variety-packed selection for many hiking enthusiasts and families. The starting points for the variety-packed hikes are the hiking information areas in Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg. Along with challenging tours in Kitzbühel's southern mountains, idyllic paths proceed along the natural lakes and ponds.

Over 1000 kilometres of hiking paths of all difficulty levels provide variety-packed tours from the Kitzbüheler Horn across the southern mountains to the Hahnenkamm. Mountain hiking guides from Kitzbühel Tourism provide free hikes through the region and let you in on insider tips about the lakes, waterfalls and Alpine inns which serve excellent, traditional meals.

In autumn too the gondolas and chairlifts operated by the cable car company are popular ascent aids for exploring the mountains and enjoying the views to the surrounding mountains. In the distance, the Hohe Tauern, the Wilder Kaiser and the Loferer Stone Mountains extend a welcome. Along  the hiking route network there are numerous traditional Alpine inns and lodges inviting you in to enjoy traditional treats.
