Freeriding in Kitzbühel

Pure powder

Freeriding is the ultimate high for any alpine skier and has a long-standing tradition in Kitzbühel. The town’s first freerider, Franz Reisch, skied down the Kitzbüheler Horn back in 1893. As you would expect, there have been plenty of changes in the world of freeriding since then, but one thing will always be the same: the feeling of absolute freedom as you ride through untouched snow. Ski tourers are also big fans of the open views and easy accessibility that make the mountains around Kitzbühel perfect for powder runs. But don’t forget, safety first!

Freeride guides

If you want to experience unrivalled freeriding fun in Kitzbühel, it’s essential that you always check the latest avalanche report and only venture into off-piste terrain if you have the appropriate safety equipment. If you do not have sufficient freeride experience or want to refresh your knowledge of backcountry basics, we recommend that you use the services of one of our local freeride guides, who can help you safely navigate through the deep powder of Kitzbühel’s off-piste terrain.

Safety course

“Freeride & Skitouren 1×1” (Freeriding and Ski Touring 101) is a training course held by local mountain and ski guides. The course either focuses on the emergency management approach used in the case of avalanches (from emergency calls through to successful searches) or proper conduct when freeriding and ski touring (from planning through to choosing the right terrain).

Away from the prepared pistes, the ski resort of Kitzbühel offers freeriding fun that knows no limits. The expansive backcountry stretches out over an area of 200 square kilometres and offers plenty of space for secluded mountain experiences. When exploring this stunning landscape, please be aware of the flora and fauna on your chosen route.
