Archery has been an Olympic sport since 1972. Concentration, movement in the open and the elimination of influence from outside forces are some of the requirements of this Bow and Arrow hunting sport. The goal is to fire the arrow as closely as possible to a small defined target on an artificial board, never on animals. This is what makes Archery one of the most precise sports.
Archery is one of the oldest forms of human hunting and as a weapon the arrow was very effective due to its almost silent operation. Archery was included in the Olympic Games of 1900, 1904, 1908 and 1920 and since 1972 it has returned as one of the chosen sports.
In Kitzbühel and the surrounding areas there are excellent opportunities to practice the sport of Archery. At the, "Alte Wacht", guesthouse in Jochberg there are two archery courses laid out. The smaller course with 10 targets at close intervals between each other is ideal for families or for a short trip. The small course can be shot at night because the targets can be lit if required and it only takes between one to one and a half hours. The full course includes 20 targets and is alongside the Jochberger Ache River and takes between three to three and a half hours to complete.
The, “Great Hunt”, archery tournament is held annually on the second weekend in October and during the summer, weekly beginner classes are held. For your convenience, Archery equipment is available to rent from the, "Alte Wacht”, guesthouse and there are other courses nearby in Kirchberg, Koessen and Waidring
Far More Than a Horse Ride!
Horse riding in the Kitzbühel Alps is a real treat for both horse and rider whether you are alone, in pairs or with the whole family. From the beginner who dares to try it for the first few hours, up to the horseman who enjoys long hours of riding, everyone finds something suitable. It can range from exercising on the rope or taking the course to trips in the area.
Highly trained riding teachers are there not only to teach beginners with horses, advanced riders can also learn the odd trick especially in unknown terrain.
Next to the sporting and vigorous warm-blooded animals are also sweet Haflinger ponies to make children's hearts flutter as they wait patiently for their first horse ride of their young lives.
A tip from us:
A horse and carriage ride! Whatever the season, a horse and carriage ride will always give you time to enjoy the scenery.
