Race biking

No other sport combines the enjoyment of nature with speed as elegantly as road biking. Kitzbühel offers you the best conditions for this, with a wide network of tours covering a total of 1,200 kilometers. Especially for enthusiastic hobby cyclists, the steepest bike mountain in Austria, the Kitzbüheler Horn, is a must. With a continuous gradient of up to 22 percent over a distance of just ten kilometers and around 890 meters in altitude, endurance and stamina are required here.

E-Biking

Over the past few years, e-biking has been a megatrend in cycling – and rightly so! With an electric bike that adapts to all fitness levels, anyone can stick a map in their backpack and jump off to explore our mountain landscape. Thanks to the support of the battery, people in any age group can go on long bike tours. Over 80 destinations can be reached by e-bike from Kitzbühel. From a leisurely trekking tour to a mountain bike tour followed by a downhill trail, there are no limits for e-bikers in our region.

Single tracks

That feeling of freedom, of exhilaration that comes from being in the here-and-now... when your bike tires whirl over the bouncy forest floor or narrow grass trails, over gravel paths or winding flow trails – mountain bikers love it. The Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol offer athletes fertile soil for this kind of adventure with numerous single tracks.

The flowing Hahnenkamm Bike Trail is just the thing for adventurous bikers on the mountain. It runs over hill and dale, as well as through meadows and forests. Unfortunately there’s little time to enjoy the view: despite its blue classification, the mountain trail always demands your full concentration.

The Flow Trail starts at the mountain station of the Fleckalmbahn and leads over the Hahnenkamm (with its famous race track the Streif) down into the valley. The Salvenradrunde is one of the most popular bike tours in the Tyrolean lowlands. Although the tour is not the shortest, it is mostly very flat and almost the entire route is covered on beautiful bike paths. Therefore, this route is also ideal for families and pleasure cyclists.

Kitzbühel – a cycling paradise

Whether on a mountain bike, racing bike or e-bike: no matter which kind of bike ignites your passion, the Kitzbühel bike trails have got it all. Cycling experts and novices alike will find what they’re looking for.

It’s the final stage in the Tour of Austria: the ascent to the Kitzbüheler Horn – the steepest biking mountain in the country. Once a year, the pros sprint up the road to the Alpenhaus at a maximum slope of 22.3 percent. The rest of the summer, the road is open to all race biking enthusiasts – and you’ll get timed, too. Those who prefer a less steep but just as athletic excursion can choose from a total of 14 racing bike tours with a total length of 750 miles and more than 5,900 feet of elevation. The routes lead to the most beautiful roads in the Tyrolean lowlands, into the neighboring Salzburg Pinzgau and even to the Grossglockner.

Biking into the mountains
The beauty of nature is best explored on a mountain bike – riding along the approximately 500 miles of Kitzbühel MTB trails and routes, the soft rolling of your own wheels may be the only sound heard far and wide. The region's gentle mountain landscape is ideal for both short and long bike tours across alpine pastures and grassy mountains. But be careful: Here, too, you'll find the occasional challenging bike route, like the one across the Saukasergraben to the Pengelstein.

Still, riding around on your mountain bike doesn’t necessarily mean always fighting your way uphill. Along with challenging bike tours to the most beautiful peaks, relaxing valley trails and easy cycling routes are also nestled in the Kitzbühel landscape. In addition, the area offers more than 80 excursions for those traveling by e-bike – after all, the Gamsstadt is part of the largest e-biking region in the world. Thanks the rechargeable battery, you don’t need to be a peak athlete to enjoy extended trekking and mountain excursions on your vacation. Should the battery run out of energy before you do, our extensive charging network is there to top it up.

All tours in and around Kitzbühel are available online at maps.kitzbuehel.com. The relevant GPS data and bike maps can also be easily downloaded to your smartphone.

Downhill action on the trail
A leisurely uphill and action-packed downhill are guaranteed on our trails – if you want to save your strength for the descent, just take a gondola or chairlift to the top. The Hahnenkamm Bike Trail is directly accessible from both the Hahnenkamm lift and the Fleckalmbahn and runs 4.5 miles at 2790 feet in elevation, ending right at the Hahnenkamm valley lift station. The Flow Trail is rated easy and is suitable for beginners. Intermediates and experts have plenty of biking trails to choose from in Kirchberg. Trails there include not only the Fleckalm Trail (accessible from the Fleckalm lift) but also the Lisi Osl Trail and the Gaisberg Trail (Gaisberg chairlift), which once hosted the Austrian Downhill National Championship.

Guided tours, bike guides and bike rental
With so many bike routes to choose from, often it’s not easy to find the best. That’s where our guided tours can help. The bike professionals from Kitzbühel Tourism will take you to the most beautiful spots – and they’re happy to reveal a trick or two when it comes to cycling technique. If you only begin to hear the bike saddle calling to you after you’ve started your vacation, our bike partners are available with tips, rental bikes and expertise.

Bike events
Those who prefer to let others do the pedaling can get a taste of the biking sport at various bike events in and around Kitzbühel. The summer sports season begins with the Kitzbühel Triathlon (June 14th - 16th 2024) and the KitzAlp Mountainbike Festival (June 26th - July 08th 2024), which take place almost simultaneously. After its world premiere in 2021, the Kitzbühel Cycling Marathon is again looking forward to having numerous participants (August 27th, 2023).
