Even the youngest generation flocked to the course and were captivated by the action.
Under brilliant blue skies and against a spectacular mountain backdrop, the Austrian Alpine Open 2026 officially got underway on Thursday with the first day of tournament action at Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith. Hundreds of spectators began streaming onto the course early in the morning for the chance to see some of the world’s best golfers up close – and they were not disappointed.
Naturally, two Austrian players attracted particular attention. While World No. 18 Sepp Straka lived up to the home crowd’s expectations with a composed opening round, it was local favourite Maximilian Steinlechner who truly gave the Tirolean fans something to cheer about. The Tirolean produced an impressive performance to finish the opening day at five under par – much to the delight of his family, friends and hundreds of fans who followed him around the course, cheering him on every step of the way.
The youngest generation also had plenty to enjoy: pupils from Kitzbühel’s sports secondary school headed to Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith for the chance to experience professional golf up close. In the afternoon, the Tirolean Golf Association also gave children and young people the opportunity to experience the Austrian Alpine Open first-hand.
