From 25 to 31 May 2026, the renowned Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith will become one of the key stages on the international golfing scene. This year, the DP World Tour makes its first-ever stop in Kitzbühel, Tirol, bringing together world-class sporting performances and meticulous event organisation. On Tuesday, Austrian golf star Sepp Straka and the tournament organisers gathered at the Hahnenkamm start house in Kitzbühel to provide insights into the sporting challenges, the event’s international significance and the role of golf as a driver of tourism and economic activity for the region and the province of Tyrol.
Following the successful inaugural Austrian Alpine Open at Golfclub Gut Altentann in SalzburgerLand last year, Tirol is now showcasing its credentials as a premier sporting destination at Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith. As an official stop on the 2026 DP World Tour calendar, the tournament is firmly in the international spotlight. Since being awarded the event, the course has been specifically upgraded to meet the highest international standards and is now ready to welcome the world’s golfing elite.
World-Class Golf in Front of a Home Crowd
For Austria’s leading golfer Sepp Straka, who regularly competes against the best players in the world, playing a Tour event on home soil is something very special: “My last tournament in Austria was eight years ago, so I’m all the more excited to be teeing it up here again. The course is in excellent condition. Kitzbühel is truly beautiful, and the views from the golf course are simply spectacular.”
Millions in Media Value for Tirol and Kitzbühel
Karin Seiler, Managing Director of Tirol Werbung, emphasised the international reach and impact of the event: “The DP World Tour is one of the world’s leading professional golf tours alongside the PGA TOUR. We are therefore delighted that, in cooperation with SalzburgerLand, we have been able to bring this international sporting event to Tirol and have Kitzbühel at our side as an experienced partner with an outstanding golf offering. Staging this major event in early summer helps us strengthen tourism during the shoulder season and consistently pursue our strategy of developing Tirol as a year-round destination. At the same time, the event will showcase our Alpine landscape prominently on screens around the world for many hours and is expected to generate more than EUR 37 million in media value.”
“Kitzbühel is synonymous worldwide with elite sport and exceptional experiences. With more than 70 years of golfing history and four golf courses in the town alone, Kitzbühel today offers a truly unique tourism proposition. Hosting a major international sporting event that showcases these qualities to audiences around the world is therefore the logical next step,” said Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser, Managing Director of Kitzbühel Tourism, underlining the importance of the Austrian Alpine Open for the entire region.
“After an intensive period of preparation, we are now very much looking forward to the tournament. The figures speak for themselves: over the coming days, the event will be broadcast in more than 170 countries, with almost 3,000 hours of live media coverage. Our special thanks go to everyone involved in making this project possible – particularly our greenkeeping team.”
A Tournament Setting New Standards
Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of Golf Enterprises GmbH and emotion Group and organiser of the Austrian Alpine Open, said: “With the DP World Tour, we are not only bringing elite sport at the very highest level to Kitzbühel, but also positioning the region as an international golf destination with strong long-term potential. The combination of sporting excellence, spectacular natural surroundings and first-class infrastructure makes the Austrian Alpine Open a genuine highlight on the tournament calendar – for professionals and spectators alike. Welcoming Sepp Straka, one of the world’s best golfers, is a tremendous asset both for the tournament and for Austrian golf as a whole. We are ready to show the world what Austria has to offer.”
