Inauguration of the Jubilee Garden

100th Jahrmarkt

Since the 700th anniversary of Kitzbühel being granted town status in 1971, the so-called Jubilee Garden has existed below the church steps. Each year, a local association or institution celebrating a special anniversary is featured there. This year, the coat-of-arms-shaped floral display is dedicated to the 100th Jahrmarkt of the Kitzbühel Town Band (Stadtmusik Kitzbühel).

Once again, the city gardeners, under the direction of Head Gardener Oskar Schwaiger, were responsible for the design and implementation of the flower bed. Together with his team, they spent approximately one week arranging 1,200 echeverias, a total of 2,500 red and green alternantheras, and Iceland moss into an impressive floral composition.

The 100th Jahrmarkt
The fair looks back on a long and eventful history: from medieval church fairs and a charitable festival in the 1920s to today's well-organized town celebration featuring music, community spirit, and tradition.

Its origins date back to the 14th century, when a “church festival with special entertainment” was celebrated in Kitzbühel. The history of the market in its present form, however, began in 1923, when the town and regional authorities jointly organized a charitable event in support of the local welfare and assistance committee. The first market of this new era took place in autumn and served both as a festive occasion and as an expression of lived solidarity.

The Kitzbühel Town Band was first mentioned in an organizational role in 1938. Since 1950, it has held full responsibility for organizing the event. Through the involvement of numerous local associations, the fair has developed over the decades into one of the district’s most important summer festivals.  For the first time, the 2026 jubilee fair will feature a dedicated children’s area in Kitzbühel Town Park, including a bouncy castle and a play street.

The Jahrmarkt is much more than a festival. It is a meeting place, a living tradition, and an integral part of Kitzbühel’s identity – celebrated this year for the 100th time and continuing to provide a special experience year after year.
