Sustainable Initiatives at Kitzbühel Tourism

Sustainable Crafts

The maintenance team maintains and improves the infrastructure in the four council areas throughout the year. Where possible, they use locally sourced materials and, in appropriate areas, employ alternatives to chemical products.

Drawing on their craftsmanship and knowledge of local conditions, they maintain and improve paths, facilities, and public spaces. They employ both proven techniques and modern methods, tailored to the specific requirements. This ensures that the infrastructure remains functional and adapted to the unique characteristics of the surrounding environment.

Cuisine | A Celebration of Local Flavours

With “Kitz Kulinarik,” Kitzbühel hosted its first event to be certified as a Green Event according to the criteria of Green Events Tirol. As part of the event, regional food products were used, and measures were implemented in the areas of mobility, waste management, and information.

These included, for example, guidance on using eco-friendly transportation, the use of digital menus, and initiatives to reduce waste. The use of locally sourced products is part of these measures.

Reusing Christmas Trees

Fir trees used at events during the Kitzbühel Advent season are not discarded after use but are repurposed. Kitzbühel Tourism coordinates the transfer of the trees to the Aurach Wildlife Park.

There, they serve, among other things, as food for animals such as sheep and ibex. This reuse is an example of how materials from events can be put to additional use.

E-bikes for business travel

Kitzbühel Tourism has purchased four e-bikes for the team, which can be used for short work-related trips and local appointments. This provides an additional transportation option alongside the car.

Community and business initiatives

Kitzbühel Master Craftsmen's Guild: True masters. Authentic art.

About 20 craft businesses from Kitzbühel have joined together to form the “Meistergilde Kitzbühel.” The shared emblem (“guild seal”) serves to highlight the participating businesses and their focus on craftsmanship.

The businesses are active both in providing craftsmanship services and in training apprentices. This creates apprenticeship opportunities in various trades throughout the region and helps pass on specialised craftsmanship knowledge.

The businesses contribute to economic activity in the region, including through local employment and training.
