Kitzbühel’s #Local Heroes

The man the skiers in Kitzbühel trust

Florian Oberacher is a Kitzbühel native through and through and, figuratively speaking, grew up with skis for feet. He’s been working in the KitzSport workshop for 10 years and makes sure our skis are in perfect condition every day, all winter long. Originating from seven different KitzSport rental points, every day between 200 and 500 pairs of skis find their way into the competent hands of this ski wax professional. "Each ski is picked up at least seven times before it’s finished," explains Florian. Despite the sophisticated technology in the workshop, ski preparation is still manual work that requires finesse.

Vacation in Kitzbühel

The Kitzbühel ski area

Vacation in the world's best skiing area

The excellent infrastructure and diverse offerings in the Kitzbühel ski regions are also recognized internationally: in 2015, Kitzbühel won the title "World's Best Ski Resort."The Gamsstadt has won the award for Austria five times in a row and is currently the “The Best Ski Resort in Austria."The regular infrastructure investments made by Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel (also known as “KitzSki”) contribute to the Gamsstadt topping the list of the best ski resorts in Austria.

200 days of guaranteed snow

With its 145 miles of beautiful slopes, the guaranteed-to-be-snowy Kitzbühel ski area in Tyrol, Austriais undoubtedly one of the most popular resorts in the world. 57 cable cars and ski lifts, great freeride opportunities, and – above all – the world-famous Streif all await ski vacationers in the “best ski area in the world,”inviting you to experience skiing paradise!

Like in St. Anton, the ski season in Kitzbühel is long. 200 days, to be precise. Frommid-Octoberto early May, enthusiasts will find ideal skiing conditions in the Kitzbühel ski resorts, not to mention a rocking après ski scene. This year, too, Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel will start the new winter season in October, making the resort one of the first non-glacier ski areas in Austria to open. The Austrian Skiing Association takes advantage of this early opening for training purposes. Special offers for the start of the new ski season – including lift passes – await all skiers!

The Streif myth

One word, one legend: Streif! It’s the most demanding descent in the world, where the very best skiers battle for each hundredth of a second in the legendary Hahnenkamm Race in January... and you can conquer it in Kitzbühel’s largest ski area in winter as well as summer. But be careful: to follow in the footsteps of the world's best downhill skiers, you must be very experienced. The key points on the Streif, like the Mausefalle, the steep slope, and the Hausbergkante, are marked as "extreme ski routes." However, people who simply ski for pleasure can have their own fun in the snow: on the Familienstreif, you can fill your lungs with that high-altitude World Cup air under more leisurely conditions, as the route skips the most difficult passages in the ski race. Beginners can have a go at the Mini-Streif, a skill course at the foot of the Hahnenkamm ski run, then take a lift back up and do it all over again. Another highlight of the Kitzbühel ski area is the legendary “Ganslernhang." Eager skiers try to emulate the masters of technique on one of the last classic slalom courses in the World Cup.

Skiing is a tradition in Kitzbühel

The most legendary sports and recreation town in the Alps has been writing skiing history for over 125 years. The Gamsstadt is characterized by easy accessibility, long winters, guaranteed snow, and numerous top ski events.

Snow fun for the whole family

The sports city also has a lot to offer for families and children. Each of the ski schools has its own children's areawhere young ski stars learn their first arcs in a playful environment. The snow park on the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain in St. Johann in Tyrol offers pure skiing fun. The Audi quattro Funslope with waves, tunnels, and a bridge makes skiing an adventure for little ones. The kicker line for advanced skiers and snowboarders is perfect for trying out your new freestyle tricks.

The free practice lifts in the valley are a unique highlight available to all beginners in Kitzbühel and its vacation villages. Of course, ski rental is available in all Kitzbühel vacation areas. But families will also find a lot to do off-piste: with the weekly children's themed hikes, rides on the cable cars, or a visit to the swimming pool in the “Aquarena,” there’s plenty of variety. Whether carriage rides, tobogganing, or ice skating, a vacation in Kitzbühel is an unforgettable experience for the whole family!
