Kitzbühels #Local Heroes
The man whom the skiers in Kitzbühel trust
Florian Oberacher is a Kitzbühel through and through and, figuratively speaking, grew up with skis on his legs. He has been working in the workshop at KitzSport for 10 years and makes sure that our skis are always in perfect condition every day in winter. Every day between 200 and 500 pairs of skis come into the competent hands of the ski wax professional from seven KitzSport rental points. "Each ski is picked up at least 7 times until it is finished," explains Florian. Despite the sophisticated technical aids, ski preparation is still manual work that requires a certain amount of tact.
The Kitzbühel ski area
Vacation in the world's best ski area
The excellent infrastructure and diversity of the Kitzbühel ski area is also recognized internationally: in 2015, Kitzbühel won the title of "World's Best Ski Resort". The Gamsstadt has won this award five times in a row across Austria and is currently "Austria’s Best Ski Resort". The regular infrastructure investments by Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel (also known as “KitzSki”) contribute to this.
200 days of guaranteed snow
The snow-sure Kitzbühel ski area in Tyrol, with its 230 kilometers of wonderful slopes, is undoubtedly one of the most popular resorts in the world. 57 cable cars and lifts, great freeride opportunities and above all the world-famous “Streif” await ski vacationers in the “best ski area in the world” and invite you to perfect skiing!
The ski season in Kitzbühel is long. More precisely, 200 days. From mid-October to early May, ski enthusiasts will find ideal conditions in Kitzbühel. Also this year, Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel will start the new winter season in October as one of the first non-glacier ski areas in Austria. This offer is also gladly used by the Austrian Ski Association for training purposes. Special offers for the start of the new ski season are waiting for all skiers!
The Streif myth
One word, one legend: Streif! The most demanding descent in the world, on which the best skiers fight for every hundredth in the legendary Hahnenkamm race in January, can be conquered by you in winter as well as in summer. But be careful: if you want to follow in the footsteps of the world's best downhill skiers, you should be a very experienced skier. The key points on the Streif, such as the Mausefalle, the steep slope or the Hausbergkante, are marked as "extreme ski routes". However, pleasure skiers can also have their own wandering experience: On the “Familienstreif”, you can sniff a little more leisurely World Cup air, as it skips the most difficult passages. Beginners can try their hand at the "Mini-Streif", a skill course at the foot of the Hahnenkamm run. Another highlight of the Kitzbühel ski area is the legendary "Ganslernhang". The technology stars are emulated on one of the last classic slalom courses in the World Cup.
Skiing is a tradition in Kitzbühel
The most legendary sports town in the Alps has been writing skiing history for over 125 years. The Gamsstadt is characterized by easy accessibility, long winters, guaranteed snow and numerous top events.
Snow fun for the whole family
The sports city also has a lot to offer families and children. Each ski school has its own children's area, in which the young ski stars learn their first arcs in a playful way. The snow park on the Kitzbüheler Horn offers pure skiing fun. The Audi quattro Funslope with waves, tunnels and a bridge makes skiing an adventure for the little ones. The kicker line for advanced skiers and snowboarders is perfect for trying out your freestyle tricks.
A unique highlight are the free practice lifts in the valley, which are available to all beginners in Kitzbühel and its holiday villages. Of course, ski rental is available in all Kitzbühel holiday regions. But there is also a lot on offer for families off-piste: with the weekly children's themed hikes or a visit to the swimming pool in the “Aquarena”, there is plenty of variety. Whether carriage rides, tobogganing or ice skating, a holiday in Kitzbühel is an unforgettable experience for the whole family!
