From time immemorial, the chamois city has always been an invitation to a relaxing summer retreat in the heart of the Alps. Particularly on holiday, an unmistakable combination of time for rest and relaxation with activity goes hand in hand, because in summer, too, sporting tradition is written large in hiking, cycling and golf.
The region in Tirol was the first destination to be awarded the European Hiking Seal of Quality in 2019, setting new standards with a well-managed and signposted network of hiking trails and nine qualified hiking hosts.
A special hiking experience in Tyrol is the exploration of the typical Kitzbühel grass mountains, which are also covered with colourful meadows and alpine pastures at over 2,000 metres, creating a unique mountain landscape against the imposing backdrop of the rugged peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.
With its themed hiking trails, the sports city offers a wide range of activities for numerous hiking enthusiasts and families. Starting points for the varied hikes are the hiking information points in Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg. In addition to challenging tours in the Kitzbühel Southern Mountains, idyllic paths lead along natural lakes and ponds. The Schwarzsee, one of the warmest lakes in Tirol, also invites you to swim in the lake.
A unique highlight of the sports city is the legendary Streif in summer and winter. In summer, hiking enthusiasts experience the race track at the Streif-Viewing and the Kitz Trail STREIF-live. For families, the Streif summer experience offers fun for young and old with the varied adventure trail.
More than 1,000 kilometers of hiking trails for all levels of difficulty offer a wide variety of tours from the Kitzbüheler Horn to the southern mountains and the Hahnenkamm. Mountain guides from Kitzbühel Tourism will guide you through the region free of charge and reveal their secret tips on lakes, waterfalls and huts with excellent traditional food. Gondolas, chair lifts and summer cable cars are also popular lifts in summer to explore the mountains and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. In the distance the Hohe Tauern, the Wilder Kaiser and the Loferer Steinberge greet you. Along the hiking trail network there are more than 60 managed alpine pastures and huts and invite you to traditional delicacies.
