Women’s Tennis Returns to Kitzbühel: WTA 125 Tournament Expands the Tennis Summer

Kitzbühel continues to write tennis history: after a 33-year break, international women’s tennis is returning to the Gamsstadt. From 13 to 19 July 2026, a WTA 125 tournament will be held at the Kitzbühel Tennis Club, adding another top-class sporting highlight to the Tyrolean tennis summer.

From 1945 to 1993, women’s events were an integral part of the Kitzbühel tennis tournament. Legendary names – most notably Billie Jean King, who claimed victory in Kitzbühel in 1971 – shaped the event for decades. With the return of women’s tennis, this long-standing tradition will now be continued, while also creating a new stage for elite women’s tennis in Austria.

Tennis fans can also look forward to a truly unique programme: immediately afterwards, the Generali Open Kitzbühel (18–25 July 2026) will take place. This means two consecutive weeks of world-class tennis in Kitzbühel. The WTA 125 finals will be played in parallel with the men’s qualifying rounds for the ATP 250 tournament – a special experience for fans who can enjoy twice the tournament atmosphere.

For players, the tournament is also an attractive addition to the calendar: thanks to close coordination with the ITF tournament in Amstetten, players will have the opportunity to compete in two high-level tournaments in Austria back-to-back, with minimal travel and ideal conditions.
