The Alpenhaus is nestled in the unique landscape of the Kitzbüheler Horn at an altitude of 1,670 metres. It's always been a great place for pleasure-seeking hikers, cyclists and skiers. Franziska and Hans-Peter Reisch are full of passion and commitment to the family business. They give us an insight behind the scenes of the mountain restaurant and tell us what makes the Alpenhaus on the Kitzbüheler Horn so unique and one of our #LocalHeroes.

The Alpenhaus high above Kitzbühel
You can get to the Alpenhaus mountain restaurant via the Hornbahn cable car or the new panoramic road. It's at 1,670 metres above sea level, nestled in the gentle mountain landscape of the Kitzbüheler Horn. The Alpenhaus is a great spot for relaxing at any time of year. With its huge sun terrace and three tiled stoves, it's perfect for sports enthusiasts, connoisseurs and families looking to recharge their batteries or round off a wonderful day. The Reisch family will treat you to some delicious homemade Tyrolean specialities, like wiener schnitzel, home-smoked bacon or the famous spinach dumplings. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, you can look forward to fresh Kaiserschmarrn pancakes or cake variations from the in-house pastry chef Hans-Peter.
A family business as it is written in the book
The Alpenhaus mountain restaurant was acquired together with the Kagringalpe by ski pioneer Franz Reisch in 1883 and has now been run by the Reisch family for over 130 years. While it was run as a hotel in the 2nd generation, Ernst Reisch converted the Alpenhaus into a daytime business in the 3rd generation and had the famous Panoramastraße built in 1965. Franz and Ursula Reisch and their children Franziska and Hans-Peter are now the 4th and 5th generations to run the business. The two siblings have been part of the family business since they were seven years old and actively support their parents. Thanks to years of familiarisation with the business and extensive training in tourism, the two young entrepreneurs are now an integral part of the Alpenhaus and put their heart and soul into their work, which is greatly appreciated by guests and parents alike.
In harmony with the Kitzbüheler Horn
The Kitzbüheler Horn offers guests and locals countless opportunities to spend a day in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. In addition to fantastic hiking routes such as the Karst Trail, sports enthusiasts can conquer the Horn by mountain bike or racing bike in the warm season or burn off energy with trail running. In winter, activities such as skiing, winter hiking or ski touring make sports enthusiasts' hearts beat faster and guarantee unique moments. But there is also plenty on offer for families in summer with the Alpine flower garden or the children's climbing garden, promising fun for young and old. The Alpenhaus audio guide, which was launched over 20 years ago and is now available to guests in digital form, also provides information about the wide range of activities on the Kitzbüheler Horn.
The Kitzbühel Formula
Alpine lifestyle and idyllic nature, rustic traditions and a modern way of life: Few cities combine these contrasts as skillfully as Kitzbühel. The sports capital of the Alps gained worldwide fame through the legendary Hahnenkamm races, but that is just one facet of the Kitzbühel legend. It is, above all, the incomparable charm of the region, with the towns of Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach, and Jochberg, the excellent infrastructure with top-quality hotels and gastronomy, the multitude of sports opportunities, and the captivating landscape that make Kitzbühel so unique.
