Hinterobernau Farmhouse Museum

The Hinterobernau farm has its origins in the 16th century, and since the 1970s, it has been laid out as the first farmhouse museum in Tyrol. The typical Salzburg-Tyrolean Einhof with its annexes, such as the laundry, chapel, oven, bee hut, threshing floor and cart hut, were elaborately restored and turned into a museum. The furnishings in the farmhouse are original and well cared for.

Kitzbühel is always in season – as the most renowned sports town in the Alps, it offers much more than just winter highlights. Nestled between the Hahnenkamm, Kitzbüheler Horn and Wilder Kaiser, the distinctive charm of our region entices visitors in the spring, summer and autumn, too. But to be honest: Even here, the sun doesn’t shine 365 days a year. Overcast skies don’t have to cast gloom over your vacation, though. After all, there are countless ways to enjoy rainy days in Kitzbühel.

Ideas for fun and relaxation when it's chilly and damp
One of the best places to make your day a true pleasure is at one of Kitzbühel's wellness centers. Unwind and soothe your soul at an indulgent day spa in one of our wellness hotels. Even more variety and lots of fun await swimmers and bathers at the Aquarena. Whether you’re looking for excitement or serenity in the water, Kitzbühel's swimming and bathing center welcomes you – in addition to a sports pool, a bathing area and two adventure slides, there’s also a spacious sauna area with a steam bath, hammam and Kneipp pool.

Indoor activities for kids and adults
If you're searching for “fun indoor activities near me” on a rainy day, the Sports Park is the place to be. Kids and adults alike love the modern climbing center with its bouldering area – and there’s a tennis hall, bowling alley, Austria’s only curling hall and an ice skating rink to keep kids busy, no matter their age. Anyone looking for more ideas for kids shouldn’t miss Lisi World in the neighboring vacation village of Reith near Kitzbühel, which provides endless fun with indoor games kids love. Loooking for a sensory activity? At this indoor play paradise for kids and youth, Mom and Dad can relax while the kids have a perfect time playing on the trampoline and climbing tower, among other indoor activities. A scavenger hunt and obstacle course are ideas for your schedule, too.

The cultural side of Kitzbühel
There’s no question that Kitzbühel has made a name for itself as the most renowned sports town in the Alps. The Kitzbühel Museum highlights what makes the Gamsstadt special when it comes to history, art and culture – and from historical Bronze Age excavations to the legendary Wonder Team to the collection of works by Alfons Walde, there’s a lot to see. The Farmhouse Museum offers a glimpse into the region's traditional agricultural history, with many of the original furnishings and machinery preserved. There’s an eerie beauty in the Kitzbühel Krampus Museum, where you can see traditional hand-carved masks of creepy characters.

Shop the bad weather away
If you left your all-weather clothing at home, an extended shopping tour is bound to be on your agenda. In addition to long-established sporting goods stores that will equip you and your kids for adventures in any kind of weather, Kitzbühel is also home to international brands, designer labels and traditional local boutiques. A little window shopping? Yes, please.
