25.07.2022 / On the second weekend in August, the 2022/23 ice hockey season will once again kick off at the Sportpark Kitzbühel. Once again this year, four versatile teams from four countries will be represented and will take on the challenge of winning.
International top ice hockey on offer in the heart of Tyrol
For the fourth time in a row, the two tournament days in the most legendary sports city in the Alps will open as an international invitational tournament, setting a real highlight just before the start of the season. The field of players promises exciting games with a top line-up and guarantees that not only the fans will experience the greatest joy - in addition to two champions, a runner-up as well as a basic round winner will be represented. The hosts EC Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bull München will meet the team EV Zug from Switzerland and Mountfield HK from the Czech Republic.
The first semi-final kicks off on Saturday 13 August at 17:00 with the clash between Mountfield and Red Bull München. The traditional Swiss club successfully defended their championship title last season and thus recorded their third championship victory. With Red Bull Munich, they face one of the most successful German ice hockey teams, who won the German ice hockey league PENNY DEL three times in a row from 2016 to 2018. Then, at 8:30pm, the other two teams - EC Red Bull Salzburg and EV Zug - will meet in the second semi-final, with two current champions facing each other. On the one hand, the Tipsport Extraliga club based in Hradec Králove, who finished the 2021/22 season as winners for the first time. The other is EC Red Bull Salzburg, who brought the championship trophy back to Salzburg last season.
The respective winners will meet in the final on Sunday, August 14th, 2022 at 7.00 pm and battle for the trophy in front of enthusiastic spectators. Before that, the battle for third place will be played at 3.00 pm.
