The KURIER ROMY aims to become the largest film and television award in the German-speaking world.
KURIER Managing Director Mag. Richard Grasl emphasized that the KURIER ROMY is set to be elevated to the next level. “That’s why, in the 35th year of its illustrious history, we are opening a new chapter. The move to Kitzbühel is part of a strategic initiative by KURIER Medienhaus to reach new target groups, present the ROMY brand in a new context, and further strengthen the international appeal of the event. Proximity to the strong TV and media hub of Munich and the entire German market offers ideal conditions. Our goal is for the KURIER ROMY to become the biggest film and television award in the German-speaking world.”
ORF will continue as the main partner for the next three years. ORF Director General Mag. Roland Weißmann: “The KURIER ROMY is back, and ORF is pleased to be on board once again as a long-standing partner for the relaunch in Kitzbühel. This means that the audience – the main actor of this wonderful award – can experience the glamorous ceremony up close and cheer for their TV stars. The KURIER ROMY is a valuable expression of the close bond between the audience and their TV favorites and demonstrates the high esteem in which local film and television creators are held. I congratulate all nominees and wish them the best of luck for the 2025 voting.”
The glamorous gala will take place on November 28, 2025, at Schloss Kaps in Kitzbühel and will be hosted by audience favorites Mirjam Weichselbraun and Hans Sigl. With the “ROMY Concerts by WellCard,” the gala also receives a prestigious expansion. Musical highlights in the ROMY Hall include the Spider Murphy Gang on November 29, 2025, and Alphaville on November 30, 2025.
Mike Mayr-Reisch, Chairman of Kitzbühel Tourism: “It is an honor and a privilege that the KURIER ROMY Gala is taking place in Kitzbühel. As the most legendary sports town in the Alps, Kitzbühel also has a rich history in film and television. Legendary were Romy Schneider’s countless visits in the 1960s and 70s. In 2025, she will, in a sense, return to Kitzbühel once again. We thank KURIER and ORF for the excellent cooperation.”
Many innovations among the nominations
In addition to the existing categories, this year introduces the categories KURIER Award for TV Analysis, Best TV Documentary, and KURIER Audience Hit. Jury chairman and KURIER Head of Culture Georg Leyrer: “The traditional heart of the KURIER ROMY are, and will remain, the acting categories. Beyond that, we are placing increasing importance on information: reliable facts are more important today than ever, and journalism is facing many challenges. That is why the KURIER ROMY is dedicating more space to information this year than ever before. On the one hand, in the already established category of TV Journalism, and on the other hand, with two new categories at the gala: With the KURIER Award for TV Analysis, we are recognizing for the first time those people who explain and contextualize the news – from politics to major crises, to entertainment and sports. And TV documentaries will also be honored with a KURIER ROMY, as they, too, make an important contribution in providing the public with information. Also new is the KURIER Award for the biggest audience hit: we are honoring outstanding achievements in film and television that have achieved particularly high popularity.”
The nine KURIER ROMY categories are:
Most Popular Actress TV/Streaming
Most Popular Actor TV/Streaming
Most Popular Actress Film
Most Popular Actor Film
TV Journalism
KURIER Award for TV Analysis
Best TV Documentary
Show/Entertainment
KURIER Audience Hit
At www.romy.at, the public can now vote for their favorite film and television stars of 2025. Voting ends on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
First-time cooperation with the Kitzbühel Film Festival
The event is also being expanded in time through a newly established cooperation with the renowned Kitzbühel Film Festival, transforming it from a one-night gala into a major film and television week with numerous events. “The partnership with the ‘KURIER ROMY’ further strengthens the Kitzbühel Film Festival’s role in the entire German-speaking film industry. With very successful events such as ‘Cinema on the Mountain,’ the festival already offered a taste of the spectacular program awaiting visitors at its 13th edition. In addition to supporting young talent, exchange and dialogue within the industry during numerous side events remain a key pillar of the Kitzbühel Film Festival. The festival is increasingly dedicated to the further development and promotion of the film industry and its identity-shaping role for the domestic media sector,” says Michael Reisch, co-founder and managing director of the Kitzbühel Film Festival.
