A dive into Hechtsee is part of summer for the people of Kufstein and many guests from home and abroad. It is located in the Brandenberger Alpen, at the foot of the Thierberg, near the border between Tyrol and Bavaria.
Hechtsee in Kufstein - a popular excursion destination in the midst of diverse nature
Trees are reflected on the moss-colored water surface of Hechtsee slightly above Kufstein. A leisurely walking path leads around the lake over roots and stones. Cozy benches along the path and on the lakeshore invite you to linger. Elongated in shape, Hechtsee blends perfectly into the surrounding forest.
Surrounded by the Tyrolean mountains
Hechtsee is 57 meters deep and has a water surface area of around 28 hectares. Located on the border to neighboring Bavaria, surrounded by the Brandenberger Alpen, and just a short distance from Thierberg. Thanks to its excellent water quality and unique views, Hechtsee is one of the most popular bathing lakes in the region. In addition to many sought-after fish species, pike (Hechte) naturally also live in Hechtsee. However, the lake does not owe its name to them, but to the water nymph "Hechta", who is said to have lived there according to a legend.

Sunbathing areas, a children's playground, table tennis, as well as a beach and water volleyball court are located in the lido area. There are also numerous nice spots to relax all around the lake.

Experience the beauty of Hechtsee on a 2.6-kilometer walk. Along the water. Surrounded by forest and trees. Cozy meadow areas to linger. Breathtaking views. The circular hiking trail around Hechtsee is a delight all year round. Tyrolean winter romance of a special kind can be experienced particularly well there. Fresh snow, the frozen lake, snow-covered trees. Hechtsee is also the starting point or a stage of the 4-Seen-Wanderung, depending on which of the four lakes is defined as the starting point. Starting from the right bank, the hike begins at Hechtsee and leads past Egelsee to Längsee and Pfrillsee. The hike can be extended as desired around Thierberg or for a refreshment stop at Gasthof "Neuhaus".
