Marco Macheiner – Marco is a Kitzbühel local, passionate musician, mushroom hunter and hairdresser.
Haircare since 1964
The hairdressing salon "Intercoiffure Walter" of the Macheiner family is a fixture in downtown Kitzbühel since 1964. Marco Macheiner leads the hairdressing salon in second generation, although the hairdressing profession was not his dream job in the beginning. Originally, Marco wanted to become a ski racer and pursued this career very intensively to a certain extent. Until Marco, however, as he says himself, exchanged the goal poles for the London pub.
After completing his apprenticeship in his parents' business and completing his military service, his path led him to a well-known hairdresser in London's Bond Street. Here he deepened his hairdressing knowledge and skills and extended his training by another 1.5 years. This was followed by 5 years in Australia. With the profession he learned as a hairdresser, Marco was able to gain a foothold in Sydney. His boss at the time was also responsible for the hairstyles in Australia’s first sitcom and Marco was part of the hairdressing team around TV productions. However, music and Kitzbühel have never left him in all these years and so the path led him from Australia back to Kitzbühel.
First gig at the Londoner
Marco calls himself a beat dyslexic and has taught himself everything about music, like playing an instrument, writing music and song lyrics.
He founded his first band in 1984 with his friend Gigg. The two had their first gig in the same year as the duo Gigg-Mäx in the Londoner Pub in Kitzbühel. The musical role models Wolfgang Ambros, Falco, Boris Bukowski and Georg Danzer were and are formative for his musical style. Marco has more in common with Wolfgang Ambros today than just a business relationship. The two have become friends over the years and they meet not only at the inn for a "Bummerl" as Marco calls it. Marco plays in various bands and records songs with different artists over the years. Among them is the song "Wan a bissal" with the actress Jane Tilden, who was a good friend of the family all her life.
Podcast – stories from the hair salon
At work, the hairdresser is told many stories. One customer told Marco the story of her life, how she had found her way to Kitzbühel, how her husband had left her for the housekeeper and she now has the house in Kitzbühel.
These stories belong to be told and not only to me.
Together with Lisi Obermoser from Kitzbühel, Marco is currently working on a podcast about stories in the hairdressing salon. Marco is happy when guests have a lot to tell and even more when the stories are heard by many.
Hometown Kitzbühel
Marco, who lives in Kitzbühel, is occasionally skeptical about his hometown, as much as he likes it, and expresses his mood about Kitzbühel with his music as well. With the song "The Soul of My Town," Macheiner explains that the soul of Kitzbühel is buried somewhere.
I won't tell you my favorite place in Kitzbühel.
To the question about his favorite place in Kitzbühel, Marco gives us only very vaguely an answer, according to his statements, there are the most porcini mushrooms - south-facing and at about 1,400 meters..
#LocalHeroes from Kitzbühel
It is the people who make Kitzbühel and its holiday villages Reith, Aurach and Jochberg this special. These are exactly the personalities we are talking about in our "LocalHeroes" series, in which the true heroes of our region are put in the spotlight. They would never call themselves heroes, but they are: Because it is only due to their passion for what they do that we can all experience the unique Kitzbühel attitude to life..
