And here is one of many stories told by our Head-Greenkeeper Helmut, who has been working at the golf course Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith with passion and commitment for many years.
The Hahnenkamm on the one side, the Kitzbüheler Horn on the other and in the back the Wilder Kaiser is enthroned. What a workplace!
A magnificent view that Helmut enjoys every day in summer. Born in Kitzbühel, he has been working at the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith golf course since 1998 and has been head greenskeeper there since 2003. The lush green and the sheer immaculate evenness of the turf is partly due to Helmut’s hands and his feeling for nature. Together with his eight colleagues, he ensures that the numerous golfers who come to the chamois city every summer find flawless conditions on the course.
Like the perfectly groomed slopes in winter, Kitzbühel’s renowned golf courses are the result of hard work.
Hard work, which is a seasonal activity for many of the golf course workers. In winter, most of them are drawn to the Kitzbühel mountains as ski instructors or lift operators. Not so Helmut. Even when the golf course has long since been covered by masses of snow, his work never stops. During the cold season, the Kitzbühel skier is busy grinding cylinder mowers or doing mechanical work during the winter months.
#LocalHeroes from Kitzbühel
People are behind all the special moments in Kitzbühel and its holiday villages of Reith, Aurach and Jochberg. Such personalities are the focus of our “Local Heroes” series, in which we turn the spotlight on the true heroes of our region. Though these courageous individuals probably don’t consider themselves to be heroic, in our eyes they are. After all, their passion contributes to Kitzbühel’s unique way of life.
