For me there is no alternative on sunny mornings, than to rise and shine and head up the mountain.
View towards the town of Kitzbühel.
The reward – breakfast on the mountain
A top tip from me for a sporty morning with a special reward for my efforts would be a “Streif Hike” (up the Streif) to the Seidlalm (about 45 mins) followed by mountain breakfast.
Start at the Hahnenkammbahn valley station. Hike for about 45 minutes to Seidlalm. A pleasant hike and one you should be able to enjoy. Continue up to “Hausbergtal” and turn right at the fork, in the direction of Ganslernhang, Hausberg and Seidlalm.
View from Oberhausberg towards Kitzbüheler Horn.
Up the Streif
Continue steadily uphill, overlooking the still sleeping Kitzbühel below. All is quiet at the “Rasmushof” Golf and Country Club. Just the noise of the greens-keeper mowing the lawns may be heard.
We are accompanied up the Ganslernhang by the sound of cowbells, before they are drowned out by the clanging bells from our parish church. The sight of the surrounding mountains is simply breathtaking. That early start has just paid off in spades!
Steeper in summer than winter?
It is an incredible experience every time, to stand on the edge of the Hausbergkante with Kitzbühel in front of you, so peaceful and idyllic. When you consider that in January, the ski stars literally plunge down the slope here at over 110 km/h during the Hahnenkamm Races, it is all the more impressive in my opinion.
Oberhausberg“ Farm is nestled in the midst of beautiful natural landscapes. Richly adorned with an abundance of flora, it presents the perfect photo opportunity. The aroma of freshly mown grass takes me back to my childhood. Haymaking up here is definitely no easy task.
The cows enjoy the alpine meadows.
Morning sports
Not long until breakfast, I can hardly wait. A small section of the path runs through the forest, rain in the night has served its purpose and the air is refreshingly invigorating. It has to be said, the hiking trails up here are in fabulous condition.
Hot and sweaty, we arrive at our destination – the hens are clucking in front of the hut and cows lie comfortably in the grass. Everyone, be it man or beast, enjoys Sundays in their own, inimitable, way up here.
Breakfast buffet at Seidlalm
Homemade food on the table
What more could you want? Fresh coffee and regional delicacies from the buffet. Homemade butter and marmalade, the smell of fresh bread, farmer’s cheese and so much more. Well-deserved after that ascent. We still have the large terrace to ourselves, but that will surely change soon.
I have never tried nettle juice. Turns out it tastes great. Maybe I can get the recipe? It is said to be very healthy – simply flushing all toxins out of the body.
Flower-Love!
After all this morning sport, it is time to head back down to the valley
After an extensive breakfast, we return along the Alte Seidlalmweg trail. An easy hike. Those wanting a faster descent should take the shortcuts (all are signposted) through the forest.
Breakfast is also available in the following mountain huts: Bichlalm, Hornköpfelhütte, Berghaus Tyrol, Lämmerbühelalm……
