The special exhibition invites you to explore this unique habitat from different perspectives. From the vibrant coexistence of humans, animals, and plants to exciting scientific insights into moors, glaciers, and climate history, as well as the impressive biodiversity in and around the lake. Historical photographs, plans, and objects tell the story of tourism development since the 19th century, encompassing sports, art, and grand visions – but also agriculture, mining, fishing, and peat extraction. In the end, the current question regarding the future of Schwarzsee is posed: How can we balance usage and nature conservation? An exhibition about the value and transformation of an extraordinary natural and cultural space and the responsibility humans have for it.
