Pools and Lakes in the Kitzbühel area

Summer in Kitzbühel – Pools and Lakes

When the sun is shining and the weather is warm, the area in and around Kitzbühel offers a multitude of refreshing ways to cool down. The top highlights in the valley are the moorland lakes such as the Schwarzsee and the Gieringer Weiher, which are ideal for taking an invigorating dip. Another excellent recommendation for families wanting to cool down in the open air on hot summer days is the “Waldschwimmbad”, an open-air pool by the woods in the village of Jochberg.

All of the local mountain lakes and reservoirs are ideal for visitors who want to treat their feet to a refreshing break after a long hike. Even when the weather cools down, Kitzbühel still remains a top location for water lovers, who can swim lengths at the Aquarena swimming centre or enjoy a relaxing day spa  at one of the towns’ hotels.

Schwarzsee lake

The Schwarzsee is located between Kitzbühel and Reith and is one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in the Alps. The water warms up quickly in spring thanks to its moor content and it is said to have healing properties. A great way to spend time at the Schwarzsee is to stroll around the lake, jump into the cool and healthy moorland water and bathe in the warm sun, all while admiring the beautiful mountain backdrop. Other highlights at the Schwarzsee include electric boats for zipping around on the lake and various lake bistros with sun terraces where you can sit back, relax and treat yourself to snacks and coffee.

The special combination of majestic mountains and idyllic lakes stand for a unique summer retreat in Kitzbühel.

Gieringer Weiher

If you’ve already discovered the Schwarzsee, the Gieringer Weiher lake at the heart of the “Bichlach” hiking, cycling and leisure area is another excellent tip for relaxation and recreation at its best. Situated in a romantic setting, the Gieringer Weiher is an unspoilt natural moorland lake and a true oasis of peace, quiet and relaxation. Visitors can also visit the lake with their four-legged friends, who are more than welcome to join them for a splash.

Waldschwimmbad Jochberg

The name of this pool translates to “forest swimming pool” and this is precisely what it is: a swimming pool right by the forest, Waldschwimmbad Jochberg. With its manageable size, separate baby splash zone and fun water slide, the open-air pool is particularly popular among families with children and toddlers. Adults also love the pool, however, especially thanks to the wonderfully peaceful location. Alongside the water-based highlights, the Waldschwimmbad is also home to a large sunbathing lawn, a beach volleyball court and a café that serves snacks and drinks. Like many other attractions in Jochberg, the swimming pool is, of course, „revitalised“ with Grander water.
