Kitzbühel’s racing-bike classic in the Salzburger Pinzgau with the eye-catching Zellersee lake and Kitzsteinhorn.
This tour leads along the Römerweg to St. Johann. Taking side streets and bike paths you come to Fieberbrunn, then up a moderate ascent (Gasthof Eiserne Hand) to Hochfilzen (Pass Grießen 1,000 m). After Hochfilzen join the B 164 (Hochkönigstraße) gently descending to Leogang and onto Saalfelden (744 m). In Saalfelden it’s a short stretch towards Maria Alm, then turn right onto the small secondary road towards Gerling and onto Maishofen. Pass the Zellersee lake on the eastern side. In Bruck an der Glocknerstraße turn onto the Tauern bike path. Go through the hamlet of Rettenbach to join the old Pass-Thurn-Straße. Here continue along an unpaved stretch (unproblematic) then turn into the Pass-Thurn federal road (B 161). Enjoy the pleasant consistent ascent (mostly well under 10 %) to the top of the pass (1,274 m), and the swift descent (long straights!) to Jochberg. Follow the federal road (Bundesstraße) to Kitzbühel.
